Connecting Malaysia's Livestock Supply Chain
Ensuring the safety and traceability of livestock products in Malaysia requires coordination across multiple points in the supply chain — slaughterhouses, operators, distributors, and laboratories — each generating data that needs to be connected to build a complete picture of any individual animal from slaughter to distribution.
Before the E-TAG Karkas System, this traceability was difficult to achieve in practice. Asset inventories — slaughterhouses, licensed operators, equipment — were maintained separately from slaughter records and distribution data. Laboratory sampling results were managed in standalone systems with no direct connection to the broader supply chain record. The result was a fragmented data landscape that made end-to-end traceability difficult and audit responses time-consuming.
The Department of Veterinary Services required a system that could connect all of these data points into a single, integrated traceability platform — covering the full lifecycle of livestock from slaughter facility through to distribution endpoint.
02 // The Solution
A Unified Livestock Traceability System
Primus Core built the E-TAG Karkas System as JPV's core livestock traceability platform — integrating asset management, slaughter process tracking, distribution monitoring, and laboratory data into a single connected system.
The asset management layer maintains the inventory of licensed slaughterhouses and operators across Malaysia — providing JPV with a current, accurate record of all regulated facilities and the parties responsible for them. The slaughter process module tracks individual livestock through the slaughter and processing workflow, creating a timestamped record that can be traced back at any point.
Distribution tracking follows processed livestock from slaughter facility to downstream recipients — providing chain-of-custody visibility across the supply chain. Integration with the laboratory system connects sampling records and test results directly to the animals and batches they relate to, enabling JPV to close the loop between physical inspection and laboratory verification within a single platform.
